Thrift store find becomes divine French toile divider!
While working at a thrift store in college, Reader Projects Jessie Burkhart rescued a shoji-style, four-panel screen from the Dumpster. “They were just going to toss it out, but I had big plans for it!” Jessie says. Working with an existing French toile theme in his bedroom, he decided to cover the screen with black-and-white wallpaper, also rescued from the thrift store (about $1 per roll). Here’s how Jessie transformed his screen:
- Washed the screen and let it dry.
- Spray-painted the edges and let them dry; Jessie chose bright red.
- Cut wallpaper to fit both sides of the screen’s four panels.
- Used wallpaper paste to apply the wallpaper pieces to both sides of the screen’s panels.
After it dried, Jessie split the four-panel screen in half by removing the screws, then flanked his bed with the two-panel screens. Click here to see the finished project.
