Terry Grahl

By Danielle Peterson

As far as Terry Grahl is concerned, there is no dream too big. She decided to show this to the world through a beautifully painted driveway. “I wanted to walk down my driveway and have it feel like every dream is possible with determination and hope,” she says.

Fueled by her can-do spirit, Terry spent a grueling two weeks working in 90-degree heat to complete the project. After she power washed the driveway, Terry used garage floor paint and exterior acrylic paint to make her designs.

With a cobblestone stencil, she created a rock pattern from the street to her garage door. Along the edges of the path, Terry freehanded groups of flowers to resemble flowerbeds. After the paint dried, Terry used a clear sealer on her artwork. “We don’t want our precious dreams to disappear,” she says.

Terry recalls the sweltering days, working 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “I guess you could say I was a little crazy,” she admits. Terry completed her masterpiece during summer vacation. “I had four kids asking me everyday ‘what’s for lunch Mom?’ But I was a woman creating her own world,” Terry says.

Now that the work is complete, Terry couldn’t be happier. “My driveway will always represent a path to a better place,” she said.

Her advice for anyone interested in completing a similar project: “Drink lots of water and enjoy the journey!”

Tip: Terry suggests using garage floor paint and exterior acrylic paint to create driveway artwork.

Tip: Use a clear sealer so the artwork doesn’t fade. Two sealers we recommend are:
      •Behr Concrete Penetrating Sealer
      •Sherwin-Williams Shield-Crete Acrylic Clear Glaze
