patina in minutes
Why wait a lifetime for a rich patina finish when you can create it yourself?

Tools + Materials
• oil- or latex-base concrete stains in earthy colors, such as black, raw umber, raw sienna, and light green
• water
• concrete statue, birdbath, or other landscape accent made of masonry
• paintbrush
• spritz bottle filled with water
• sponge

1. Following manufacturer’s instructions, mix stains to a convincing mossy hue. Use water to thin the tint by 25 percent (full-strength tint is too bold).

2. Moisten the statuary.

3. Brush the tint on lightly (you can always add more later), occasionally spritz with water to create a natural, streaked effect. Let dry.

4. Use a sponge to apply individual stain colors as highlights. Keep in mind that moss and grime tend to collect in angles and folds, so give those areas extra attention. Let dry.
