Not enough floor space for a bookcase? Hang floating shelves for space-smart storage in a home office. We replaced the lowest shelf of a purchased shelving unit with an MP3-player speaker shelf, spacing the units to allow clearance for a memo board.

Tip: For optimal holding power, always mount shelving directly to one or more wall studs. An arrangement like this looks best centered over furniture, but remember that furniture can shift slightly; studs can’t!
