Distress your cabinets—in four easy steps—to resemble country cabinets with a well-worn look and feel.

Tools + Materials

  • sandpaper (light and medium grit)
  • tack cloth
  • latex primer
  • paintbrushes
  • latex paint
  • tinted glaze
  • polyurethane

    1.Lightly sand the original finish. You do not need to sand down to bare wood. Wipe clean with the tack cloth.

    2. Brush on a coat of latex primer. Let dry.

    3. Apply a coat of latex paint. Let dry. Using medium grit sandpaper, randomly sand raised surfaces and the panel to reveal some primer coat and create a worn look.

    4. Apply brown-tinted glaze to mottle the fresh paint and enhance the aged look. Let dry. Apply two coats of polyurethane to protect the look and give it easy-care, wipe-clean livability.
