Use a wire brush or medium-grit sandpaper to remove loose, chipped, or cracked paint. If you’d prefer not to vacuum or sweep later, tape down a drop cloth to collect debris. If the old paint around a window or door frame is loose, figure out the cause of the problem. Remedy any moisture- or heat-related problems before repainting the window or door.
