It’s true: You need to wash walls before painting them. Paint adheres best to clean surfaces.
Use a sponge or sponge-head mop to wash walls with a trisodium phosphate solution (often referred to as TSP and available in liquid and powder form). Rinse well with warm water or a 50-50 mixture of water and distilled white vinegar. Let dry.
