How To | Sewing | Basket Liners

Basket Liners

Identified by a machine-embroidered label, these fabric liners make baskets the perfect place to tuck project materials away.

MATERIALS
Fabric (see below to determine yardage)
Machine embroidery needle
Air-soluble marking pen
Fusible tear-away stabilizer
Contrasting rayon machine embroidery thread
Seam sealant

INSTRUCTIONS
Note: All measurements include 1⁄2-inch seam allowances unless otherwise noted.

Measuring the Basket
Because the size and shape of each basket is unique, measure yours to determine the exact dimensions needed to make a custom liner.

Referring to the illustration, below, measure the width of each of the interior sides (if the basket sides are tapered, measure at the widest distance), add the measurements together, and add 1 inch for seam allowances. This number is the cut width of the liner sides (Measurement A).

Referring to the illustration, below, determine the height desired for the embroidered flap (we used a 3-1⁄2-inch flap on each basket) and multiply this number by 2 to get Measurement B.

Referring to the illustration, below, measure the interior height of the basket (Measurement C). Add Measurement B to Measurement C and add 1 inch for seam allowances. This number is the cut height of the liner sides (Measurement D).

Referring to the illustration, below, measure the depth and width of the interior basket bottom. Add 1 inch to each dimension for seam allowances. These numbers are the cut dimensions for the liner bottom
(Measurement E).
