FILLING PILLOWS
When your pillow is sewn and ready to be stuffed, you can plump it up in several ways.
Purchased pillow forms are one of the easiest ways to fill your pillows. They’re available in myriad shapes and sizes—even cubes and balls. For the softest, cushiest pillows, choose down-filled forms. They cost a bit more, but you’ll love the results. Tailor the size of your form to the fullness you desire for your pillow; for the fullest shape, choose a pillow form that’s the same size or even slightly larger than the size of your finished pillow cover.
Fiberfill is another option. This pillow filler can get a little lumpy, so smooth it into the final shape before stuffing it into your pillow.
For square or box shapes, you can also use thick foam. Cut the foam with a serrated knife and insert it into your pillow.
ELIMINATING MISSHAPEN CORNERS
To make professional-looking, tailored corners on pillows that have corners sewn at right angles, slightly taper the raw edges at the corners, right. Trim away 1⁄2 inch of each corner with a gradual angle that begins 3-1⁄2 inches from the corner at each perpendicular side. Sew the corner seam using the tapered edges.
