FABRIC FACTS
Follow these tips for choosing and caring for fabrics in a bathroom:
Consider who will use the bath and how often. “In a guest bath or powder room that’s rarely used you can use a fabric that’s more dramatic and less practical,” says home stylist Kristina Freeman. “In a child’s bath, however, you might want to use something more practical, such as a laminated fabric shower curtain.”
Keep it natural. Choose only natural fabrics, such as cotton, cotton blend, or linen.
Wash natural-fiber fabrics in cool water, dry on low, then smooth out wrinkles with a cool iron.
Avoid using stain-prone fabrics or ones that have to be dry-cleaned. Poor choices for a bathroom would be silk, which shows water stains, and upholstery-weight fabric, which typically must be dry-cleaned.
