Basic Square Pillow

This pillow design is so easy to sew! In next to no time, you can have a bed or sofa full of interesting sizes, colors, and fun trimmings.

MATERIALS
Pillow form
Decorator fabric (amount depends on size of the pillow)
Matching sewing thread
Piping or beaded trim as desired

INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Unless otherwise noted, always sew with the right sides together using 1⁄2-inch seam allowances.

1. Decide on the size of your pillow. Measure the pillow, adding 1⁄2-inch on all sides for seam allowances.

2. Cut two pieces of fabric to these measurements. Cut piping or beaded trim to this length plus several inches. For instructions on how to make matching piping from fabric, CLICK HERE.

3. On the right side of the pillow top piece, pin piping or trim around the perimeter, matching the raw edges as shown.

4. Using a zipper foot, baste the trim to the pillow top piece. Clip the seam allowance to help ease it around the corners.

5. With right sides together, pin the pillow bottom piece over the pillow top piece, sandwiching the trim between the layers.

6. Using a zipper foot and a normal stitch length, stitch the top to the bottom, leaving an opening to insert the pillow form. Insert the form. Slipstitch the opening closed.
