You’ve heard of people who buy a house “sight unseen.” That pretty much describes Emily and Matt Perry, who purchased a home overshadowed by an 80-foot-tall pine. “I always say that I bought a tree with a house,” Emily says.

Based on what they could see, they figured the 1930s house would need a little work, but it was in a great neighborhood. They knew just what they wanted to do to transform the house, so what could go wrong?
