In the Summer 2007 issue of Do It Yourself, we show you a cedar fence that camouflages chain-link fence posts. Here are two additional options for topping the fence.
Perforated-Metal Panels The perforations in these aluminum panels create a play of light that varies as the sun moves throughout the day. The panel frames are made from the same 5/4 cedar used for the post sleeves. Click here for an illustration.
Made of 1 ⁄ 16-inch-thick aluminum sheeting, these panels feature a punched-hole pattern that’s attractive and also allows for ventilation and acts as a privacy screen. A narrow groove along the inside edges of the cedar frame houses the metal panels. The perforated metal is from Perforated Metals Plus; 800/220-8952;

Tip: Small angle brackets, attached first to the posts’ sides, provide inconspicuous mounting support for the metal panel frames. All but the top end of the bracket will be hidden when the panel is in place, and a single screw at each end provides the holding power.
