Tip 1: Keep track of the cord. When using tools equipped with a power cord, be aware at all times of the cord location. You do not want to cut it!
Tip 2: Score the material before cutting. When cutting paneling, wallboard, or other sheet goods, keep a utility knife and straightedge handy to score any marks before cutting; this increases accuracy.
Tip 3: Start slow, then speed up. When starting the cut, increase the speed as you slowly lower the blade in the board.
Tip 4: Place the sheet good or board face down. Then mark and cut the opposite side for smoother cuts.
Tip 5: Support the item. When finishing a cut, keep a strong hold on the board's end to prevent snapping and tearing.
Tip 6: Cut from all sides for thick lumber. If lumber is thick, such as 4- or 6-inch fence posts, then be sure to mark each face and make cuts from every side.
