shell-covered sconce

Instructions: How to make this
shell-covered sconce.

Tools + Materials

  • electric sconce with glass shade
  • adhesive (we used Household Goop)
  • seashells

    1. Remove the shade from the sconce. Beginning at the widest flared edge of the shade (in this case, the bottom), glue on a row of the largest shells. Overlap the shells as shown. Use progressively smaller shells as the shade narrows.
    2. Continue to glue on shells, slightly overlapping previous rows and following the contours of the shade. Let the adhesive cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.
    3. Reattach the shade to the sconce.

Tip: The translucent shells project a warm glow when the light is on. Try this technique on a night-light, too.
