1. Stack the furniture in a pleasing and balanced arrangement. Drill pilot holes and attach the pieces with screws, working from underneath, inside, or from the back, so the screws aren't visible. For extra stability, attach a 2x4 with screws to the back of the piece to form a spine.
2. Lightly sand the assembly so it will accept a new finish. Prime and paint; let paint dry.
3. Lightly sand to reveal the base coat in areas for an aged look.
