Tools + Materials

  • safety glasses and gloves
  • china or other broken ceramics
  • newspaper
  • hammer
  • terra-cotta pot
  • ceramic tile adhesive
  • sanded grout mix
  • water
  • bucket
  • putty knife
  • small piece of bubble wrap or thick cloth
  • sponge

    1. Put on the safety gear. Wrap the china or ceramics in newspaper, then hit the bundle with the hammer to create shards.
    2. Spread the ceramic tile adhesive on the backs of the shards and arrange them on the terra-cotta pot. Let dry for 24 hours.
    3. Following the package directions, mix the grout in the bucket. Use the putty knife to spread the mix over the shards on the pot, working it into the crevices. Press down on the grout with a piece of bubble wrap or thick cloth to smooth it. Let dry for 30 minutes.
    4. Wipe the pot with a wet sponge to remove any film. Wait 15 minutes and wipe again; repeat until there is no grout residue. Let the pot dry for 24 hours before using.
