A retro floral-pattern fabric inspired the color palette for our makeover. The fabric, available by special order, was a little pricey, so we used it sparingly for the window shade, lampshade, and stool cushion. Its bold red, white, and black coordinate nicely with black-and-white ticking fabric. Note that we pulled the olive hue used for the backsplash stripes from the foliage.
Pendant Light Spritz a pendant light shade with spray adhesive and wrap it with fabric to create a $50 custom light fixture. To finish the edges, turn them under the shade and secure with fabric glue. Choose a fabric, such as this floral pattern or a solid, that doesn’t need to be perfectly lined up; it’s frustrating to try to align stripes on a tapered shade.
Sink Skirt An inverted pleat punctuated with glass buttons gives this $20 single-panel skirt dressmaker details. Hook-and-loop tape is used to attach it to the face frame of the sink base cabinet.
